Parents Worried About opening port on a router?

i need to open port 3074 (UDP) on my router so gta4 will work but they say they don't want to open it because my mom has confidential medical files on her computer and they think that if they open the port a hacker will get into her computer and people will sue them. How can i convince them that opening a port on a router is not that big of a deal.
